about

On May 31st, 2013, my friend Pat Carroll passed away due to complications from Cystic Fibrosis. This song was written in his memory, and I would give anything to give it to him. Since I can't, I am happy to give it to you.

Please consider donating to the foundations below in Pat's name and memory.

I grew up with Pat in our hometown in northern Michigan. Pat was an incredible person. Although he battled all his life with Cystic Fibrosis, he was still able to write, record, and release some of the most amazing music I have ever heard. He was a great friend, a supportive collaborator, and a devastating writer and performer. This song, off the upcoming album "Oakwood", was written in his memory and in the wake of his departure. Some of Pat's music can be found on his band camp (catperil.bandcamp.com) and is most certainly worth your time to listen to. Thank you, and may we all "Glow in the Dark".

-J. Grendel

lyrics

Take my hand
Let it go
Pick me up
Take me down

I say its night we better go
You say its dark so we can glow

If I could take myself apart
I'd lend my lungs I'd lend my heart
That seems a good place to start
but the operating room is dark

Start the engine
Make it stop
Get me out
Take me home

Twisting my fingers into knots
Crying backwards in Rorschachs

You said I'm better off on my toes
And how this ends no one knows
when the news from the north came to chill my bones
I went shaking chains in the catacombs

I'm afraid to speak your name out loud
Like I told death where to you'd be found
but I miss that long lonesome sound
Pressing my ear to the ground
Pressing my ear to the ground
Pressing my ear to the ground
Pressing my ear to the ground
